Nineteen students from the Midland Independent School District (ISD) were named to Academic All-state teams in recognition of their hard work in the classroom and on the field, a press release reported.
"The individuals on this list truly exemplify what it means to be a student-athlete," Director of Secondary School Athletics, Wes Torres said. "Their hard work in the classroom, as well as their passion for athletic competition is something Midland ISD can be proud of."
The list of students includes recognition from the Texas High School Coaches Association and the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
Students recognized for the Texas High School Coaches Association are MHS Football athletes Caden Pyles, 2nd Team and Brittany Cussins (student trainer) Honorable Mention; LHS Football athletes John DeHoyos, 2nd Team; Finley Higgins, 2nd Team; Brant Stadler, 2nd Team; Jacob Maltos, Honorable Mention; Elijah Nunez, Honorable Mention; Tristen Rice, Honorable Mention; Jayden Rodriquez, Honorable Mention and Mikey Serrano, Honorable Mention.
LHS volleyball athletes recognized include Brylee Awbrey, 2nd Team; Matyson Barta, Honorable Mention and Alyssa Sotelo, Honorable Mention.
The Texas Girls Coaches Association's list of students includes MHS volleyball athletes Demmi Anders, Emma Grimes, Olivia Hale, Madelyn Kennedy, Maggie Squire, Janelle Troutman and LHS Brylee Awbrey.
