Midland College students are growing their own. Succulent plants, that is.

Students who attended the recent back-to-school virtual ‘Build Your Own Succulent’ event were provided with planters, soil and succulents as part of an educational outreach program sponsored by Clark Garden Company and Permian Basin Master Gardeners, a college news release stated. Succulents such as cacti store water in their leaves, making them easy to grow in dry conditions. They can be grown indoors.

Jason Reeves, a drafting and welding major, was among those students who participated in the program.

“I attended the event because I like green and growing things and thought it would be fun,” Reeves said, according to the news release.

Clark Garden Company owner and master gardener Jessie Clark gave a presentation and provided the gift boxes to students that contained everything they needed to plant the succulents.

“I was honored for the opportunity to take part,” Clark said, according to the news release.
