Alternative Education Center's Reynaldo Duran wins Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Award

Reynaldo Duran of Alternative Education Center in Odessa, Texas, has received the Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms award, the organization announced in a press release Aug. 14. 

 The U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board sponsor the award. 

Duran has joined about 70 other U.S. citizens to travel internationally via the Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program. Professional and academic success, along with service and leadership skills are some of the factors considered when awarding recipients. 

The program has been going strong since it was launched in 1946. Since then, it was awarded more than 390,000 students, scholars, artists, teachers, and others with the chance to enhance their research and develop solutions to vital issues around the world.  

Members of the Fulbright Program confront global issues in multiple fields. Those who have taken part in the program include 60 Nobel Prize laureates, 75 MacArthur Foundation Fellows, and 37 members who have been in a government position. Additionally, 86 participants have gone on to win 91 Pulitzer Prizes. 

The organization has a presence in more than 160 countries and often joins forces international corporations and foundations. 

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA)funds the Fulbright program along with multiple partners, both cooperations and non-profit organizations. 

The Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program features a year of professional training program for national teachers at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels who are instructed on how to get their students ready for various experiences and trainings.
