Rebels upset El Paso Americas to win bi-district title
The Midland Legacy Rebels (15-17, 4-6) hadn’t had a playoff game in 12 years, but they rose to the occasion by upsetting the heavily favored El Paso Americas (29-5, 14-2) by a score of 59-44 to take the Class 6A boys’ basketball bi-district title on Feb. 20.

The Midland Legacy boys’ golf team kicked off the spring season with a big win at the Bobby Dunn Memorial Tournament, beating out 21 other teams for the meet title.

The Midland Legacy boys’ swimming and diving team placed third at the UIL Region 1-6A Championship last weekend, with the 200 meter freestyle relay team winning bronze with a time of 1:25.69. The Midland Bulldogs placed 11th in the meet with a score of 12 points.

Krueger takes two golds in Region 1-6A swimming championship meet
The Midland Legacy girls’ swimming team placed fourth and Midland took fifth in the UIL Region 1-6A Championship on Feb. 9 with a score of 152 and 146 respectively. Hannah Krueger of the Bulldogs was the top swimmer in the area with a pair of gold medals.

Lady Rebels take first at Tall City Relays to start track and field season
The Midland Legacy girls’ track team started off the season strong with a win at the Rogers Ford Tall City Relays at Memorial Stadium on Feb. 9, led by Abigail Hinojosa who set a school record in the 1600 meters. The boys’ team placed fifth in the meet.

It came down to two overtimes in a shootout between Midland Legacy (10-2, 4-1) and the Euless Trinity Trojans (7-5, 5-2), but the Rebels are heading to the Class 6A Division 1 regional finals after a 57-55 nail biter won on a two-point conversion pass from Marcos Davila to Jordan Williams.

Midland Legacy running back Damien Johnson got the scoring going early and often against Montwood, with three first quarter touchdowns in a 64-19 blowout win to be named Class 6A, Region 1 bi-district champions and move on in the state tournament.

Midland and Midland Legacy swimmers set meet and school records at Midland Invitational
On Oct. 14 the Midland High School swim and diving team hosted the Midland Invitational with 14 teams from El Paso and West Texas competing for team titles. Midland Hugh’s Hannah Krueger and the Midland Legacy boys’ relay team won their respective races (100 yard freestyle and 200 yard medley), setting meet and school records. The girls’ diving meet had Midland’s Kylee Cruce, Sydney Leonard and Aubree Cruce taking the top three spots.
