A Midland Freshman High School student has been recognized as the March Career and Technical Education (CTE) student of the month after securing a spot in the state health occupation competition.
According to a Facebook post by the Midland Independent School District (MISD), students involved in Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) participated in their first area competition this month, achieving commendable results. "Rebekah (Ramos) represented MISD at the recent HOSA Competition, which promotes science education and career preparation in the healthcare field," the district wrote. "Rebekah won first place in the Personal Care competition and will advance to the state competition next month in Round Rock. Way to go!"
According to a news release, MISD students enrolled in dual-credit health science classes had the opportunity to join HOSA last fall. The organization aims to promote science education, leadership, and career preparation within the healthcare sector. HOSA organizes area and state competitions for students to assess their knowledge and skills against peers.
The release highlighted that Ramos would compete at the state level later this spring. "I am incredibly proud of these students and how well they represented MISD in our first-ever HOSA competition," said Heather Escobedo, MISD Health Sciences Coordinator. "They showed dedication, professionalism, and integrity." Escobedo added that they would support Ramos when she competes at state.
