The City of Midland's Traffic Operations Division has released the 2024 Traffic Crash Report, providing a detailed analysis of crash data and traffic trends across the city. This information was shared in a March 18 Facebook post by the Midland Police Department (MPD).

According to the report, the city achieved significant improvements in roadway safety over the past year, including reductions in both total crashes and fatalities compared to 2023. "These positive trends reflect the City’s Strategic Plan goal of ensuring a safe and secure community, likely due to an increased focus on traffic enforcement and police presence," MPD said.

The report highlights a decrease in total crashes from 3,028 in 2023 to 2,744 last year, along with a slight decline in fatal crashes from 19 to 18. Overall, there was a 9.38% reduction in total crashes. The interchange at Loop 250 and Andrews Highway remains the highest crash location, with seven of the top ten crash sites occurring on Loop 250 or interstate roadways.

October and May were identified as the months with the most crashes, while January and February had the fewest. February, July, and November were noted for having the most fatal crashes.
