Midland Health emphasized the significance of nutrient-rich foods for bolstering the immune system in a recent Facebook post.
According to the March 11 post, while proper nutrition may not completely prevent illness, maintaining a healthy immune system is crucial. "Focusing on nutrient-rich foods and healthy lifestyle choices can help you and your family stay a step ahead," Midland Health said.
Midland Health highlighted five key nutrients essential for the immune system: beta carotene, vitamins C and D, zinc, and probiotics. Beta carotene and vitamins C and D are available in fruits and vegetables.
The health organization noted that whole grains and fortified cereals are good sources of zinc, while probiotics, regarded as beneficial bacteria, can be found in fermented foods such as sauerkraut. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the immune system combats everything from cold and flu viruses to serious conditions like cancer.
