The Midland County Hospital District Police Department has received the Certified Autism Center (CAC) designation from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). This recognition makes it the second law enforcement agency in Texas to achieve this status. The certification requires that at least 80% of the department's personnel complete autism-specific training, enabling them to effectively communicate with and support autistic and sensory-sensitive individuals.

Chief Steven McNeill expressed pride in his team's efforts, stating, "I am proud of our team's dedication and commitment to become a Certified Autism Center. This is just one more step to achieving our mission of leading healthcare for greater Midland."

Myron Pincomb, IBCCES board chairman, commented on the significance of this achievement: “This certification highlights Midland County Hospital District Police Department’s dedication to serving every person in their community. IBCCES is proud to certify the department, and we look forward to seeing the impact this training and certification will have on every individual they work with, especially autistic and sensory-sensitive individuals and their families.”

For over twenty years, IBCCES has been providing training and certification related to autism, sensory issues, and neurodiversity for professionals across various sectors including healthcare, education, public safety, travel, and corporate environments. As a unique credentialing board offering these programs globally, IBCCES ensures continued growth through expert-led training sessions complemented by long-term support mechanisms such as continuous learning opportunities, onsite reviews, and renewal requirements.

In an effort to enhance inclusivity further, the Midland County Hospital District Police Department will be featured on the IBCCES Accessibility App. This free app offers real-time guidance on certified destinations for individuals with disabilities by connecting users with accessible locations worldwide.

Additionally, IBCCES provides online resources like CertifiedAutismCenter.com and AutismTravel.com. These platforms offer free tools for families seeking certified locations and professionals who meet CAC standards.
