The City of Midland is urging residents and businesses to cease outdoor watering as it grapples with water supply and storage challenges. The city's current water inflow is insufficient to meet demand, particularly due to the significant use attributed to outdoor watering activities, which can account for 55% of the city's water consumption.
"We are struggling to keep up with the demand that goes beyond the essential use of water," a city spokesperson stated. They emphasized the importance of being considerate neighbors by halting activities such as grass watering, landscaping, and pool refilling. This measure aims to alleviate pressure on those experiencing water delivery issues.
Efforts are underway to address the situation. The city has received necessary parts and completed repairs on a crucial valve. Installation is scheduled during low usage hours tonight, though residents may still experience low pressure on Thursday morning, especially during peak hours from 5:30 AM to 9 AM.
In addition to immediate repairs, the city is collaborating with engineering firms and consultants to inspect lines and enhance water pressure across Midland. These partnerships also focus on implementing preventative measures to avoid similar infrastructure issues in the future.
City officials expressed gratitude for citizens' patience as they continue working tirelessly with staff and partners.
