Mayor Lori Blong extended her congratulations to the Midland Christian School (MCS) Mustangs girls basketball team for securing the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) 5A state championship. Her message was shared in a Facebook post.

According to the post, the Lady Mustangs triumphed over Legacy Prep with a score of 64-53, marking their first state title since 1992. Blong praised the team's determination, stating, "These ladies showed up, worked, they fought, and they led with heart." She further noted that while their talent on the court is evident, it is their leadership, grit, and faith that truly define them as champions.

Blong also highlighted that this victory was significant not only for the athletes but also for their coaches and the entire Midland Christian community. "Congratulations," she said. "Soak it in, Lady Mustangs—you earned it!"

MCS reported additional accolades following their championship win. Several players were named to the All-District team, and coaches Ashley Brinker, Emma Thompson, and Katie Osborn received recognition as the coaching staff of the year. The All-District honorees include First Team selection Jordyn Hamilton; Second Team selections McKenzie Ramirez and Haleigh Cook; along with Honorable Mentions Amara Odokwu and Mallory West.
