The City of Midland spent much of February 28 under a water conservation notice, as reported by various Facebook posts.
According to a post shared by the city at 8:52 a.m., a necessary water valve repair limited the filling of storage tanks. This prompted the city to urge residents to limit their water usage, particularly discouraging outdoor water use and the filling of swimming pools. The notice was expected to be a short-term situation.
In an update before noon, the city reported that water tanks were refilling but cautioned that it would be a daylong process. Residents were instructed to continue following the plan to assist workers in refilling the system as quickly as possible. The citywide water issue forced a delay in the Tournament of Champions held at Momentum Bank Ballpark.
As of 5:30 p.m., the city said that work continued to increase water levels in storage tanks. It anticipated the biggest draw on the system during the evening when people returned home from work and school. "Water pressure will continue to be low but should improve over the weekend," said the city in its post.
