The City of Midland has acknowledged a group of staff members from the Bush Convention Center with a Be the Energy (BTE) Award nomination, as said in a Facebook post.
According to the February 18 post, the staff received this nomination due to their actions on Martin Luther King Jr. Day last month. The team addressed an unexpected boiler issue that posed a threat to the MLK Jr. Day festivities.
According to the city, "On a scheduled holiday, they adjusted their plans, worked together, and ensured the event went off without a hitch," the post read. "Their dedication and teamwork truly embody what it means to ‘Be the Energy!’"
The BTE accolade takes its name from the city's motto. The city first distributed these awards in December 2023 to employees who helped reduce costs associated with demolishing abandoned buildings.
