Midland Independent School District (MISD) will maintain a strong presence at the University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB), as indicated by a recent Facebook post from the district.
"Nearly 700 MISD seniors received their acceptance letters into UTPB this week as a part of the Direct Admissions program! 44% of all our seniors, including those from Midland High School, Legacy High School, Coleman High School, YWLA, and Early College High School earned acceptance into UTPB," the district said in the post. The district further noted that its partnership with UTPB has been effective in assisting seniors with their transition after graduation.
According to UTPB, Midland seniors who have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher are required to complete a direct admissions form online. They must also provide the Office of Admissions with an official transcript, register for new student orientation via email, and complete either the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). Other school districts participating in this partnership include Ector County ISD, Alpine ISD, and Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD.
"The direct admission program ties directly to the mission of Midland ISD that all students will graduate college, career, or military ready," said MISD Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Howard in March 2024 when the partnership was announced. "We are grateful for our partnership with The University of Texas Permian Basin and look forward to growing this program over the coming years," Howard added.
