Purpose of the PIT
The Midland Homeless Coalition is committed to serving our community with transparency, integrity, and a shared goal of addressing homelessness. As part of our work, we participate in the annual Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, a nationwide initiative required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and coordinated in Texas by the Texas Homeless Network (THN), according to a press release.
This count is a standardized and essential process to assess the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness. Every year, the count is conducted by trained staff and volunteers, following the guidelines set by THN. This year, we were also joined by a representative from THN.
The PIT Count includes both unsheltered and sheltered populations. In addition to the teams conducting surveys on the streets, we also count individuals staying in
local shelters, providing a more complete and accurate picture of homelessness in our community. On the day of the count, we had six teams deployed across town at the same time, as well as a central headquarters to coordinate efforts.
Our focus remains on helping those in need and ensuring that resources are allocated based on verified data and real community needs. If anyone would like to learn more about the PIT Count, please contact the Texas Homeless Network as they oversee and coordinate the entire process across the state.
Homelessness is a complex issue that requires community collaboration. The Midland Homeless Coalition remains dedicated to serving with honesty, compassion, and a commitment to facts. Our goal is to better support our
community and the people we serve in Midland.
