ATMOS Energy visited Jones Elementary School this week to introduce a book vending machine aimed at enhancing student literacy.

According to a news release, the initiative is part of the Partners in Education program. The Midland Chamber of Commerce established this program, which is now operated by the Midland Education Foundation. ATMOS Energy is one of six community partners adopting campuses within the Midland Independent School District (MISD).

Jones Elementary Principal Tanya Duewall said that the partnership helps students engage in reading due to limited access to books at the school. "The book vending machine will help bridge the gap by providing books directly to students to ensure they have individual reading materials at home," she said. "This interactive and engaging book vending machine makes book selection exciting, increases student motivation to read, improves literacy skills, and ultimately fosters a life-long love of reading."

According to the news release, Jones Elementary serves nearly 500 students from Pre-K through 6th grade. ATMOS Energy will assist the school in promoting its achievements while collaborating to provide enrichment opportunities for all students and support for staff. Andrea Goodson, public affairs manager for ATMOS Energy, emphasized that community engagement is a core principle for the company.
