Registration for the Midland Police Department’s (MPD) Citizens Police Academy is nearing its close, according to a Facebook post.
According to MPD, individuals interested in enrolling in the academy have until February 13 to register. They may do so by applying at midlandtexas.gov/315/Citizen-Police-Academy. "With the slogan ‘Understanding Through Education,’ the academy aims to provide participants with valuable insights to dispel misconceptions and build stronger relationships between the police and the community," MPD said on its website. "In turn, this program allows officers to better understand the community's concerns and feelings."
The program runs for ten weeks and features hands-on experience, officer ride-alongs, and direct insights from law enforcement experts. There is no fee, and the police department covers all materials, according to the post.
Classes take place at MPD headquarters, located at 601 N. Loraine St., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Tuesday beginning February 25. The academy is open to individuals who are 21 years of age or older and live or work in Midland.
