Occidental (Oxy), a major oil and gas company in the Permian Basin, has announced the donation of 4.5 acres of land in northeast Midland, Texas, for the development of what is expected to be the city's 12th fire station. The announcement was made during a Land Dedication Ceremony held at City Hall.

Midland Mayor Lori Blong expressed gratitude for Oxy's contribution, stating, “On behalf of the City of Midland, I extend our thanks to Oxy for their contribution of land. Our community benefits greatly from the generosity of local industry leaders and companies, as they give back to support the City and so many other organizations in our region." She added that the partnership with Oxy reflects a shared vision for Midland's future.

Thaimar Ramirez, President and General Manager of Occidental’s Midland Basin Business Unit, emphasized the importance of this donation. “More resources mean better coverage for the city and faster assistance during emergencies,” he said. “This land donation is not just about building a fire station; it's about investing in the future of our community."

The donated land is located southwest of Big Spring Street (State Highway 349) and Occidental Parkway. It aims to serve northeast Midland, an area experiencing rapid growth in residential and business activities.

District 1 Councilman Brian Stubbs highlighted the significance of such partnerships: “The City of Midland is incredibly grateful for the donation of land to ensure our growing city retains the land and resources needed to continue to provide critical services to our city.”

City leaders are now focused on exploring funding options for developing the new fire station.

Occidental is recognized as a leading oil and gas producer in the Permian Basin with significant operations concentrated in West Texas.
