The National Merit Finalists for the Class of 2025 will include three seniors from Midland Independent School District (ISD).
According to a news release, the last time the district had a National Merit Finalist was in 2020, and they hadn't had multiple finalists since 2015. The finalists are Legacy High School senior Trey Rolston, Midland High School senior Caleb Brown, and Young Women's Leadership Academy senior Sanjana Vadlapatla.
Academic achievement, dedication, and leadership are among the traits that all students exemplify. "This recognition is a testament to the hard work, discipline, and commitment of our students, their families, and their schools," said Dr. Amanda Melchor, executive director of Secondary Teaching and Learning. "We are incredibly proud of Trey, Caleb, and Sanjana for this well-earned honor."
According to the news release, the National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in March. Being named a finalist means these students are at the pinnacle of academic performance in the country, which is a caveat when they apply to universities. The National Merit Scholarship Program recognizes less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, making this a significant accomplishment. Each finalist advanced through a rigorous application process.
