Midland College is celebrating the acceptance of four pre-med students into medical school.
"Exciting news from Midland College’s Primary Care Pathway Program! Four outstanding students—Eriana Loya, Dilan Gutierrez, Audrey Daye, and Rebecca Robertson—have been accepted early into the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine after just 1.5 years of undergrad education," the school wrote on Facebook.
According to Midland College, interested students have two options to prepare for medical school. The traditional pre-med pathway involves transitioning to a four-year institution before applying to medical school. Alternatively, the Primary Care Pathway Program (PCPP) offers an accelerated path allowing students to become physicians in seven years. The first two years are spent at Midland College taking academically rigorous pre-PCPP courses. Then, students can apply for Early Acceptance Notification from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM), part of the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth.
The college asked the community to help congratulate the students. "This accelerated program is shaping the next generation of doctors, with a mission to bring high-quality healthcare to rural communities," it added. "We’re so proud of these future physicians as they take the next step in their journey!"
