Midland Independent School District (MISD) Board of Trustees President Brandon Hodges addressed the public through Facebook regarding the development plans for Midland High School.
Hodges issued a statement on behalf of the board, indicating that the project will proceed on district-owned property at the site of Ranchland Hills Golf Club. The school is expected to be operational by 2028.
According to Hodges, this message was posted prior to a special board meeting held on January 23, which aimed to discuss matters related to real estate transactions. In the letter shared on Facebook, the board expressed gratitude towards the community for their engagement but clarified that trustees were performing due diligence on all potential sites considered before the 2023 school bond election. The golf course was acquired by MISD in 2019, and voters approved a bond for constructing a new Midland High School.
"The board has concluded that all viable land sites were explored and vetted and will continue to honor the vote that took place in November 2023," said Hodges. "Financially, the continuation of the project at the planned location of 1600 E. Wadley Ave. is in the best interest of taxpayers," he added. "We look forward to moving ahead with the planned site of the new Midland High School (1600 E. Wadley) and the opening of its doors, with no delays in the fall of 2028 as originally communicated throughout the bond process."
