The Midland Police Department (MPD) arrested a 29-year-old man on January 28 at the Midland International Air & Space Port following a vehicle pursuit.
According to authorities, officers responded at 12:45 p.m. to an evading incident involving a motor vehicle at Main Street and Missouri Avenue in downtown Midland. The police said that the pursuit began after an alleged theft. "Randy Lee Gutierrez stole a white 2020 Ford pickup truck from the parking lot," MPD said. "A few minutes after the vehicle was stolen, the vehicle was involved in a crash at the intersection of Big Spring and Missouri and fled the scene."
Authorities further explained that the truck's owner had installed a GPS tracker inside the vehicle, which allowed them to provide its location to the Midland County Sheriff's Office (MCSO). According to MPD, sheriff’s deputies located the vehicle, "where a vehicle pursuit ensued in the county." The pursuit continued into city limits, where it drove through the perimeter fence at Midland International Air & Space Port. "Midland Police Department Airport Units began a pursuit of the vehicle on the runways," police said. "After numerous attempts to disable the vehicle, the driver fled on foot and was apprehended by K-9."
Police subsequently charged Gutierrez with evading in a motor vehicle, evading arrest, duty on striking a fixture, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
