The Midland Police Department (MPD) is inviting citizens to meet the finalists for Chief of Police on January 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bush Convention Center, located at 105 N. Main St.

According to a Facebook post by MPD, "The event is free and open to the public." The finalists for the position will present their views on community policing and express their interest in leading MPD.

According to a press release issued by the City of Midland, the candidates are interim Chief of Police Greg Snow; former Alliance, Nebraska, Chief of Police Phillip Lukens; and former Colorado Regional Transportation District (CRTD) Chief Joel Fitzgerald. These three individuals are vying to replace Seth Herman, who departed MPD to assume the same role with the Lubbock Police Department (LPD).

The press release further states that the candidates will also engage with MPD leaders, the city’s executive team, and city department leaders. The police department currently has a budget for 275 sworn and non-sworn employees. MPD has proposed expenditures of $42.359 million for fiscal year 2025, which represents a 1.1% increase over the budgeted amount for fiscal year 2024.
