ExxonMobil has announced a $1.75 million contribution to the redevelopment of Beal Park in Midland, Texas. The funding will support the construction of the ExxonMobil Soccer Complex and Playground, which are part of a larger project by the City to enhance the park's facilities.
Rich Dealy, ExxonMobil’s Permian Vice President, expressed enthusiasm for the project: “When ExxonMobil first learned about the plan to revitalize Beal Park in Midland, we knew quickly that this was a project that we wanted to support.” He emphasized the long-term benefits for the community and region.
The park renovation is supported by a $35 million budget, with funds approved by the City and supplemented by private donations. The planned upgrades include an amphitheater, soccer fields, a cricket field, and more. Groundbreaking is expected in winter 2024.
The new soccer complex will feature up to 62 fields of various sizes. This aims to consolidate soccer activities currently spread across three parks into one location. The City hopes this will make Beal Park “the premier soccer facility in West Texas.”
Keith Underwood, ExxonMobil’s Unconventional Production Manager, highlighted the project's impact on recruitment and retention: “The impact the Beal Park renovation will have in the Permian community is going to be astonishing.”
Midland City Councilman Scott Dufford praised ExxonMobil’s involvement: “This improvement is going to be amazing not just for our youth sports but...create a place where our community can gather for years to come.”
Mayor Lori Blong noted that soccer's popularity aligns with Midland's demographics: “We know that soccer is one of the most popular recreational sports in...Midland.” She acknowledged ExxonMobil’s investment as crucial for hosting regional tournaments.
Following its merger with Pioneer Natural Resources, ExxonMobil continues its commitment to local projects. Matt Mathis, Permian Central Operations Manager at ExxonMobil, reiterated this dedication: “Quality of place is one of the foremost impediments we face...this improvement is going to make a difference for our community.”
