Bulldogs running back Elijah McCoy received another accolade a week after signing his national letter of intent to play football with the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

According to Midland Executive Director of Athletics Wes Torres, Doss Rogers from Rogers Ford hosted the event where McCoy was honored. Torres wrote, "Congratulations to @Elijah_Mccoy2 for being selected as the @greatertxford 6A Player of the Week!" McCoy earned this recognition for his performance in Week 11 during the Bulldogs' 21-18 victory over Odessa Permian.

The dealership commented on social media about McCoy's playing style: "Elijah McCoy’s physical running style shined in a 21-18 win over Permian! The Senior RB gained 67 yards and scored, bringing him close to breaking his school’s season records for rushing yards and TDs. Now, he’s the Class 6A #BFTPOW."

McCoy set a new season record for the Bulldogs with 2,269 yards this year and scored 31 touchdowns, surpassing Dave Wafford's previous record of 1,990 yards set in 1936. He expressed his achievement on social media: "I am now the single season rushing yard record holder @midlandhighfb."

UTEP head coach Scotty Walden praised McCoy's leadership and professionalism during a news conference following McCoy's commitment to play for UTEP. Walden said, "His leadership is second to none. He takes care of his body like a pro." Walden also spoke about McCoy's family and potential: "His family is first class. This young man is going to come in here and give himself a chance to compete."
