The Midland Chamber of Commerce hosted a reception for the newly and re-elected officials of Midland County at their Civics & Commerce Reception on Nov. 19 at the Bush Convention Center. Community members, business leaders, and civic representatives were present to engage with elected officials and promote collaboration for the city’s future.
“This evening’s reception has been organized to recognize and celebrate the importance of maintaining strong relationships between the business community and our local government entities,” said Melissa Wicker, chair of the Chamber’s board. “That partnership is a cornerstone for creating a thriving economy and sound public policy. National politics and events often dominate our attention, but local government plays a more vital role in our lives than most people realize.”
Evan Thomas, CEO and President of the Midland Chamber of Commerce, also spoke at the event and acknowledged the challenges faced by public servants. “Few people in this world ever raise their hands to stand for election, because Democracy can be a rough and tumble system. Some days and decisions can be met with praise, while others are met with criticism,” he said. “Without public servants like yourselves this incredible system cannot exist. So, it’s our honor to take this evening to honor you all.”
The Chamber will continue its advocacy efforts leading up to the 2025 Midland-Odessa Legislative Days event in Austin, set for Feb. 3-5. The event, a partnership between the Midland and Odessa Chambers of Commerce, will offer participants to engage with state leaders and legislators to advocate for regional priorities.
