Five athletes from the Midland Independent School District (MISD) committed to advancing their athletic careers by signing scholarships during National Signing Day.

"Congratulations to the MISD athletes who made their commitment to further their athletic and academic journey in college!" the district wrote in a Facebook post.

Students included Midland Legacy High School Aubrey Allison, Softball, Southwestern; Midland High School Barrett Jacoby, Diving, Texas Christian University; Avrey Ochoa, Softball, Midland College; Bree Battenfelder, Softball, Hardin Simmons; and Baylie Savage, Softball, Sul Ross.

According to the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA), Nov. 13 marked the initial signing date for prospective student-athletes enrolling in 2025-26 for every sport other than basketball and football. This will be the last occasion of students signing the National Letter of Intent (NLI) as the NCAA voted to eliminate this process in October. Moving forward, student-athletes and the NCAA will enter into financial aid agreements affecting the Class of 2025 and subsequent classes.

National Signing Day has long been celebrated with signing ceremonies typically held at high schools of student-athletes, according to NCSA. The practice had been in place since 1964 and was viewed as a binding agreement between schools and players. Other schools will be prohibited from recruiting players once financial aid agreements are signed in the future.
