Kayla Schear, the new volleyball and physical education coach at Texas Leadership Charter Academy (TLCA), is stepping into her first year at the school with a vision to build a competitive volleyball program. Previously, Schear spent six years with Trinity School, where she coached at various levels, including junior varsity, and played a key role in developing young athletes.
Her experience in volleyball runs deep, starting with her high school career where she excelled as a player. Schear has also participated in numerous co-ed teams and travel clubs, further expanding her knowledge and passion for the game, according to Schear.
While at Trinity, she coached JV volleyball and created volleyball camps for younger students, specifically targeting third to fifth graders to foster early skills and enthusiasm for the sport. Her coaching experience also extends to middle school and junior-level athletes, preparing them for higher levels of competition.
Schear says a competitive spirit and team-building abilities are central to her coaching philosophy.
"Building and working with a team is something that follows through in life," she says, explaining that sports can shape young athletes beyond the court.
As she embarks on a new journey at TLCA, Schear hopes to develop a volleyball program that “mirrors my passion and competitiveness” to set the foundation for future success.
With her experience and commitment to developing talent, Schear is poised to lead TLCA volleyball into a new era, driven by a focus on growth and teamwork.
