A Legacy High School senior has achieved the rare distinction of earning a perfect score on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), a standardized test that evaluates an individual's strengths, weaknesses, and potential for success.
According to a Midland Independent School District (ISD) news release, Jade Almendarez Ramirez, who was born in Mexico, accomplished a feat recorded by fewer than 1% of those tested for entry into the United States Armed Forces. Ramirez moved with her family to America when she was 11 years old. She says the score reflects overcoming the challenges associated with relocating to a new country.
"I came here with a lot of uncertainty, but I knew if I worked hard, I could have the future I wanted," said Ramirez. "This perfect ASVAB score is a testimony of hard work and the support of family. I believe the military will offer me an opportunity to grow, learn, and serve my country. I want to continue building on what I've achieved and contribute to something greater than myself."
Ramirez is currently in discussions with recruiters to determine which branch of the military she will join, as said in the news release. She is set to graduate this December and aims to follow in the footsteps of her aunt and grandfather, who also served in the armed forces.
"Jade is an exceptional student who embodies the spirit of hard work and perseverance," said Vanessa Wimberley, College Career Military Readiness (CCMR) Coordinator for Legacy High School. "We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments, and I have no doubt she will continue to achieve great things."
