A proposed $2.8 million project for Zoo Midland is set to begin construction this month, according to a filing with a state regulatory agency.

The 4,795 square-foot project will encompass two buildings and include site improvements. The working title for the project is Zoo Midland - Offsite, with construction expected to start on November 13 and conclude by May 16, 2025.

According to the filing submitted on October 31, Jason Green, director of Zoo Midland, is leading the project. WDM Architects P.A., based in Wichita, Kansas, is the design firm responsible for the development located at 1507 Todd Drive, approximately 15 minutes from the zoo.

Last month, the Planning and Zoning Commission approved the final plat for the approximately 4-acre site intended to serve as a storage facility and offsite area for the zoo.

"As a city develops, people look for those cultural aspects to become a part of, and this zoological facility will be one of those enriching experiences beyond the basic necessities of life," Green told the Midland Times earlier this year in a profile story.
