A retired National Football League (NFL) player recently visited General Franks Elementary School to deliver a motivational speech focused on perseverance.
"Former Seattle Seahawks player Germard Reed visited General Franks Elementary to inspire the 4th-6th graders! He shared powerful words on believing in yourself, living a drug-free life, and overcoming challenges. Thank you, Gerhard Reed, for speaking to our MISD students, and a huge thanks to Franks PTA for making this event possible! #StudentExperience," Midland Independent School District (ISD) said in a Facebook post.
Reed's background includes playing collegiate football at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) after his high school career at Lufkin High School. According to his bio on the 2013 UTEP roster, Reed was a communications major and has three cousins—Dante Hall, Hardy Nickerson, and Ed Reed—who also played in the NFL. He signed with the Seahawks after graduating from UTEP.

According to his Instagram profile, Reed is now a motivational speaker. Last year he told Lufkin ISD that his message centered around self-belief and pursuing dreams. "No dream is too small," Reed said. "The goal is to help mold the minds of the Youth to achieve their inner greatness because they are not average, they are not good, they are beyond great!"
