Eating a healthy lunch is being promoted as a positive experience by the Midland Independent School District (MISD) in a Facebook post celebrating National School Lunch Week.

"MISD Child Nutrition Services is excited to celebrate National School Lunch Week! Look for treasures and special treats throughout the week. #studentexperience," the district said in its post.

According to the MISD, National School Lunch Week runs from October 14 until October 18, encouraging students to consume healthy, nutritious meals. This year's pirate theme promotes well-balanced meals with the slogan: "School Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure!" The initiative is supported by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), which aims to engage parents in assisting their children in making healthy lunch choices.

According to a news release from the TDA, schools across Texas will incorporate more Texas-grown products into school meals during this week. The TDA has cultivated these meals specifically for National School Lunch Week. Additionally, promotional materials such as posters, participation charts, and digital resources are being displayed at schools to enhance nutritional awareness.

"I’m proud to work alongside these hardworking school nutrition professionals year-round, and National School Lunch Week is the perfect time to recognize their efforts," said TDA Commissioner Sid Miller. "These folks always go above and beyond to make sure our kids get the nutrition they need to succeed in the classroom. This week, they’re bringing extra energy to the cafeteria with special activities using TDA resources that highlight healthy food and Texas-grown products."
