Midland, Texas - Fidel S. Ramirez, aged 91, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Born on April 24, 1933, in Midland, TX, Fidel was a prominent figure in the community and a trailblazer as the first Hispanic to both graduate from and play football at Midland High School.

Fidel's legacy extended beyond sports, as he was actively involved in various community organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, and the YMCA. A devout member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, he cherished family gatherings, sports, and his beloved poodle named Cowboy.

He is survived by his sons Russell and Lawrence Ramirez, daughter Katherine Navarrete, brother Emilio Ramirez, sisters Cruz Winger and Faye Ramirez, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Fidel is preceded in death by his wife Juanita, daughter JoAnn, son Fidel Jr., parents Lazaro and Cruz Ramirez, and brothers Ramon, Tory, and Andres Ramirez.

Visitation will be held at Ellis Funeral Home on Monday, September 2, 2024, from 4-8 p.m., with the Rosary at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, followed by interment at Resthaven Memorial Park. Pallbearers will include family members and friends. Memorial donations can be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Midland.
