Preston's early years saw him working as a farm and ranch hand before joining the Army in 1943. After his service and marriage to Barbara Rodriguez in 1950, they were blessed with three children, Benjamin, Samuel, and Ema. Preston transitioned from various jobs, working his way through different fields and ultimately retiring as a plumber's assistant.
Having a simple taste for life, Preston enjoyed fishing, watching classic TV shows, and was an ardent follower of Atlanta Braves baseball games. Known for his dedication to family, he was affectionately known as "Welo" by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and son Benjamin, Preston is survived by his beloved wife Barbara, son Samuel Rivera, daughter Ema, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing and visitation will take place on Monday, September 23, 2024, with a Rosary recited at Ellis Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, September 24, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and Shrine, followed by interment at Resthaven Memorial Park. Pallbearers include Adrian Rivera, Ben Rivera Jr., Luis Rivera, Joseph Rivera, Nick Rivera, and A.J. Sanchez. The family expressed thanks to his VA medical team, Mauri Cauthen of Visiting Angels, and Hospice of Midland for their compassionate care.
