The first-generation ambassadors for Midland College (MC) have been revealed as the institution advocates for the success of 16 students who are the first in their family to attend school.

According to a MC news release, the First-Gen Ambassador Program provides students a forum to network at community events and cultivate a stellar network of support to help them succeed. The school had recently announced its selection as a member of the 2024-2025 cohort of the FirstGen Forward Network.

"The First-Gen Ambassador Program is not just about service," said Ida Curiel, the school’s associate director of first-generation and post-college initiatives. "It’s about building a community where first-generation students can thrive. Our ambassadors will have the unique opportunity to develop their leadership skills while making a significant impact on the lives of their peers. This program is an essential step in ensuring that every first-gen student feels supported and valued at Midland College."

The First-Gen Ambassador Program includes scholarship opportunities tied to participation, further incentivizing student engagement and commitment, along with personal and professional development according to the news release. The ambassadors are crucial in cultivating an environment that helps the school look appealing to other students interested in attending college while giving the students in the program communication and leadership skills.
