Midland College (MC) has announced its membership in a national organization dedicated to advocating for workforce-focused baccalaureate degree opportunities at community colleges.
According to an MC news release, the school is now part of the Community College Baccalaureate Association (CCBA). The institution aims to enhance accessible and career-relevant education for students and the local workforce, which remains a priority.
"We are excited to be part of this national movement," said Midland College Provost Dr. Michael Dixon. "Our membership in the CCBA will enable us to expand and refine our existing baccalaureate programs and explore new opportunities for students to earn applied baccalaureate degrees locally. This is a critical step in our focus on world-class technical training, which is one of seven pillars in our strategic plan, ensuring that MC graduates are prepared for the demands of today’s job market."
According to the news release, students who attend CCBA member schools have increased access to four-year degrees in high-demand career fields. As part of its membership, MC now has access to vital research, publications, best practices, and legislative guidance to shape its own baccalaureate programs. Additionally, MC can consult with seasoned experts who specialize in helping institutions tailor programs to meet local workforce needs. The college plans to work with these consultants to develop curricula that will help students secure jobs in sectors such as energy, technology, business, and healthcare.
"Joining CCBA will provide Midland College faculty and staff with great opportunities for enhanced knowledge and resources that will improve our ability to provide the Midland community with accessible, high-quality education to address our workforce needs," said Dr. Son Mai, MC’s associate professor of organizational management and business studies program chair.
