Midland College hosts astronaut José Hernández for Davidson Distinguished Lecture Series

After a successful screening of the critically acclaimed film “A Million Miles Away” at the Marian Blakemore Planetarium, Midland College now looks forward to welcoming the real-life inspiration behind the story, retired NASA astronaut José Hernández, as part of the upcoming Davidson Distinguished Lecture Series.

The film inspired and resonated with the Midland audience of all ages, as it emphasizes perseverance, education, and the pursuit of dreams.

“We are thrilled with the turnout for the screening and the positive feedback from attendees,” said Rebecca Bell, Midland College’s Executive Director of Institutional Advancement. “The film beautifully captures José Hernández’s journey, and we are excited to hear directly from him during our upcoming Davidson Distinguished Lecture Series.”

José Hernández is set to speak on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m., at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center on the Midland College campus. He will share insights from his life experiences and discuss the determination that propelled him to achieve his dreams against the odds. His story is a testament to resilience, family support, and educational excellence.

The Davidson Distinguished Lecture Series is a signature event at Midland College, bringing influential speakers from diverse fields to inspire and educate the community. Hernández’s lecture offers attendees a unique opportunity to engage with someone whose story has impacted millions both on screen and in real life.

“We hope José Hernández’s lecture will motivate our students and community to pursue their passions and never give up, no matter what obstacles they may face,” added Jaime Águila, Midland College Director of Community & Family Engagement. “His message aligns perfectly with Midland College's mission to provide educational opportunities that change lives.”
