Midland College has announced that a student has received a $1,500 scholarship and has been named an Oberndorf Scholar.
According to a Midland College news release, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society presented Adebisi "Princess" Saubana with the Oberndorf Lifeline to Completion Scholarship. The initiative helps sorority members navigate economic disadvantages for first-year college students in pursuit of a certificate, associate degree, or credential.
"With PTK, I was really able to discover my leadership role and the ability to be confident and impacted with life," Saubana, who was originally born in Nigeria, said. "Being in the nursing program has really empowered me to be able to read people and know I can take care of them and give back to society."
Saubana hopes to become a registered nurse and is currently enrolled in the school’s nursing program. If everything goes according to plan, she will take her state board exam to become a registered nurse in May.
The Oberndorf Lifeline to Completion Scholarship is named after Rosemary and Lou Oberndorf. Lou Oberndorf played a critical part in the establishment of the medical education technology METi, which provides guidelines for medical exercise professionals worldwide.
