Midland Independent School District (MISD) revealed that it received a score of 96 on the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) Report during its board of trustees meeting.

According to the news release, the report is based on the 2022-23 fiscal year and details the district’s financial endeavors. The score of 96 indicates an A rating, which is the highest achievement that a district can receive.

The board also heard an update on projects related to the school bond approved by voters in November 2023. The development of Lone Star Trails Elementary is 28% complete and on track to open for the next school year. Planning for two new high school campuses is 75% complete, with MISD anticipating their opening by August 2028.

Construction costs and design for Emerson, General Franks, Sam Houston, Lamar, Long, Parker, South, and IDEA Travis—part of Elementary School Renovation Group A—are expected to be approved by the end of the year. The board expects renovations at these campuses to be completed by August 2026. Projects at Santa Rita, Bush, Scharbauer, and De Zavala elementary schools will be designed by MWM Architects. The firm was chosen in September; however, a timeline for development has yet to be established. Initial site visits and surveys are currently underway.

Safety upgrades at elementary campuses are 75% finished. Middle schools in group A of the renovation project are expected to be completed by August 2026. The Alamo Junior High project is currently undergoing planning schematics and is also expected to be completed by the 2026-27 school year.
