The Midland Police Department (MPD) responded to a motorcycle accident on July 27 that claimed at least one life.

According to a Facebook post from the Permian Basin law enforcement agency, the accident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the 11120 block of State Highway 191.

Citing MPD’s report on the incident, Permian Basin stations KMID News and KPEJ News reported that a 2003 Harley Davidson traveled eastbound on SH 191 when it veered off the roadway "for an unknown reason."

MPD identified the lone fatality and the operator of the motorcycle as 56-year-old Ronald Lee Rice Jr., of Gardendale, according to the stations.

Police found Rice lying next to the motorcycle in the center median of the highway, KMID and KPEJ reported.

Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene and are currently investigating the accident.
