Midland MSA registers labor force growth in May

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) reported that the Midland metropolitan statistical area (MSA) accounted for the lowest unemployment in the state of Texas last month.

According to a June 27 press release issued by the city of Midland, the Midland MSA also witnessed its civilian labor force rise by approximately 2,000 compared to May 2023.

The Midland MSA’s unemployment rate of 2.4% bested those of Amarillo at 2.8% and College Station-Bryan at 3.0%, according to the release.

Citing a press release attributed to the TWC, Permian Basin stations KMID News and KPEJ News reported that agency chair Bryan Daniel said, "The Lone Star State continues to lead the U.S. in year-to-year growth."

According to the agency, the Midland MSA’s civilian labor force for May posted a figure of 115,800, a jump from 114,000 at the same time last year, or a growth rate of 1.57%.
