Midland Centennial Library hosting "Framed: Step into Art" exhibit | Midland Times

The Midland County Centennial Library is showcasing the "Framed: Step into Art" exhibit this summer where children can explore works of art in hands-on settings.

The exhibit encourages children to "step into” the world of art, aiming to foster art appreciation in children.

The exhibit includes stations featuring the following artists and interactive activities:

—"Camp at Lake O’Hara" by John Singer Sargent: Children can climb inside a tent, cook a meal over a campfire, and compare the shadows of tree branches.

—"Corn Festival" by Diego Rivera: Kids can add flowers and ribbons to the corn husks.

—"Dinner for Threshers" by Grant Wood: Families can learn about rural life and enjoy dramatic play in the dining room, kitchen, and front porch.

—"Big Chicken" by Clementine Hunter: Children can climb onto a giant rooster and create imaginary animals.

—"Many Monas": Celebrating Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa," this station features a collection of parodies and a cutout and mirror for visitors to see themselves as Mona Lisa.

Each station provides historical context about the artist and poses open-ended questions to encourage learning. The library has curated a selection of art books on display near the exhibit, ranging from art tutorials to books about the importance and history of art.

The exhibit was created by the Minnesota Children's Museum and is sponsored locally by the FMH Foundation, Helen Greathouse Charitable Trust, MCPL Foundation, and Carnegie Circle.

The exhibit is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will run through Sept. 7. For more information, visit the Midland County Public Library website or contact the library directly.
