The Midland metropolitan statistical area (MSA) reported the lowest unemployment rate in Texas for May, according to the Texas Workforce Commission. The civilian labor force in Midland also increased by nearly 2,000 compared to May 2023.
The Texas Workforce Commission recorded an unemployment rate of 2.4% in the Midland MSA for May. Amarillo followed with a rate of 2.8%, and College Station-Bryan posted a rate of 3.0%. Odessa's jobless rate stood at 3.2%, while the statewide average was 3.8%.
In terms of the civilian labor force, Midland MSA had 115,800 individuals in May, up from 114,000 in May 2023, reflecting a growth rate of 1.57%.

“More than 200,000 people have joined the Texas workforce since May 2023, and we continue to lead the nation in year-over-year growth,” said TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel in a press release.
