Students may be gone from the campuses of Midland Independent School District (ISD), but that does not mean schools are completely quiet. According to a post on X, maintenance crews are preparing schools for the upcoming school year.
"With students gone for the summer, our maintenance and custodial staff is staying busy cleaning and preparing our schools for the next school year. Every campus is getting a deep clean and refurbishing! Thank you for your work, and we can't wait to see students in August," said ISD, Midland ISD.
According to Midland ISD, the 2024-25 school year will commence on Tuesday, Aug. 13. The district had previously decided to start on Monday, Aug. 12, but believed starting on Tuesday would help pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students transition to their schools.

The district will conclude the year on May 21, 2025, which was altered from the original date of May 23, 2025. The new date will allow students to begin their summer break sooner and allow faculty to begin preparations for the 2025-26 school year.
Other dates on the calendar have also been modified. Columbus Day weekend has been extended from Oct. 14 to Oct. 14 through Oct. 15. The additional day will provide students and faculty with an early break during the fall semester and give teachers a three-day weekend before returning to school duties ahead of the students. Teachers have 187 days of contract work, a number that did not change from the previous calendar.
