MCSO investigates shooting incident, 37-year-old male arrested

The Midland County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) arrested a 37-year-old male on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury charge. Authorities accuse Daniel Rico of shooting another man in the face in the 1200 block of North County Road 1081 on June 9.

According to a MCSO Facebook post, deputies were summoned to the location where they discovered the male victim with a gunshot wound to the face. The victim was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital (MMH) and was listed in serious condition.

Permian Basin NBC affiliate KWES News reported that the suspect was subsequently located and arrested. The station reported that he is currently detained at the MCSO Central Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.

According to the North Texas law firm Varghese Summersett, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is typically classified as either a second-degree felony in Texas punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of a maximum of $10,000.
