The Midland County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) has launched an investigation into a suspected homicide that took place in the 10,000 block of FM 1788 South over the past weekend. The authorities were initially called to respond to an unidentified medical situation on the morning of May 12.

A statement from MCSO posted on Facebook indicated that upon arrival at the scene, deputies found a deceased male with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Based on their initial findings, the sheriff's office inferred that foul play was involved and is consequently treating the incident as a homicide.

Permian Basin NBC affiliate KWES News reported that the body has been transported to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy. According to KWES News, MCSO currently has no additional information regarding this case.

In related news, Permian Basin stations KMID and KPEJ reported last month that City-Data.com's crime index revealed that Midland experienced a crime rate of 244 in 2022, marking a 12% increase from 2021.

The city documented 13 homicides in the same year and has seen an uptick in violent crime over the past five years, according to reports by KMID and KPEJ.
