Midland Mayor Lori Blong has expressed that one of her favorite aspects of leading the city "is getting to interact with so many smart and talented city staff." This statement comes as the city celebrates Public Service Recognition Week, which takes place from May 5-11.
"One of my favorite aspects of being Mayor is getting to interact with so many smart and talented city staff," said Blong, according to Facebook. "Thank you to every single one of you who work with excellence to keep our city running. Whether seen or behind the scenes, you are appreciated. Thank you, public service employees, for all you do to make our lives better."
In honor of this week, Mayor Blong paid tribute to certain municipal employees on her Facebook page.
She further acknowledged their efforts by sharing a video on May 10.
According to the Partnership for Public Service, Public Service Recognition Week has been celebrated in the first week of May since 1985. The celebration typically begins on the first Sunday of the month and is dedicated to honoring those who serve the nation as federal, state, county, local and tribal government employees.
Blong is not only a native Midlander but also a small business owner who previously served on the Midland City Council.
She made history in November 2022 when she defeated former mayor Jimmy Morales in a three-way race, becoming Midland's first female mayor.
