The Midland Police Department (MPD) apprehended a 27-year-old individual on May 9 in relation to an alleged burglary at the Texas Leadership Academy of Midland (TLCA), located in the 3300 block of Thomas Avenue. The authorities have charged Raiquann Terreek Abner with burglary of a building, and if convicted, Abner could face time in state jail.
In a press release issued by the MPD, it was stated that officers were called to the building at approximately 9:30 a.m.
The press release further revealed that school staff members reported to the MPD that they had observed several items throughout the campus appearing disheveled and vandalized.
Upon inspection of the school's security footage, it was discovered that an individual had broken into the building overnight.
At first, it was uncertain whether the suspect remained within the premises. However, a thorough police search confirmed no one was inside.
Permian Basin CBS affiliate KOSA News reported that a tip submitted to Crime Stoppers of Midland led to Abner's arrest.
KOSA News also reported that the campus has been completely cleared and students will be permitted to retrieve any items they left behind on May 10.
