Kara Salcido, a sophomore nursing student at Midland College, was awarded with the spring 2024 DAISY Award.
The DAISY Award awards the efforts nurses make daily to exceed expectations in patient care, according to Midland Health. Midland Memorial Hospital provides a monthly DAISY Award along with annual recognitions. All recipients are celebrated during the annual awards ceremony held in May.
According to Midland College’s Facebook where the announcement was made, Salcido’s nomination for the DAISY Award came from a patient who expressed gratitude for the care she received. "A maintenance man came and said maintenance had been ordered for my room. He was accidentally confused as to the floor, had moved my food tray, and had forgotten to move it back. Kara apologized for something that wasn’t her fault and proceeded to clean my whole room and replace everything. She asked me if I needed anything else, such as a toothbrush, and returned quickly. She also came back when I had an accident and cleaned me up. She was so kind and caring, and she was a true professional. I want to give her an award for being so gentle and kind when doing my vitals and helping me tie my gown. She even helped brace me when walking me around."
