Mission Agape, a nonprofit organization, has submitted a proposal to the city of Midland for rezoning a triangular property on the south side of Thomason Drive just west of South Midland Drive. The organization plans to establish its food distribution center on this site.
According to the application submitted by Mission Agape's Stacy Baccus, the request is to rezone the property from SF-2 (single family) to O-1 (office). This change would allow the construction of an office and food storage building on the currently vacant lot. The proposal was included in the agenda for the May 6 meeting of the Midland Planning and Zoning Commission. The proposed building would occupy an area of 8,801 square feet.
The commission's agenda also revealed that properties located north of this site are zoned as 2F, two-family dwelling (duplex) district, housing duplexes. Meanwhile, properties to the south, east, and west are zoned SF-2, single-family dwelling district. These areas accommodate residences and Life Fellowship Midland Church.
The city's future land use map classifies this property within an area designated as civic/institutional/school/university. As stated in the agenda for the May 6 meeting of the Midland Planning and Zoning Commission, this designation allows for nonprofit organizations' usage. As of April 29, no objections have been raised by city departments or received in written form against this proposed zoning change.
