The University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) has recently launched its Direct Admissions program, which has received a warm welcome since its announcement last month. Midland Independent School District (MISD) revealed that seniors are anticipated to receive offer letters from the university, inviting them to attend.

According to a UTPB news release, the university collaborated with MISD and Ector County ISD to establish a pathway for students to attend the school without submitting an Apply Texas application. The purpose of Apply Texas is to provide a centralized web portal where prospective students from Texas and other states can apply for admission to higher education institutions in Texas.

"The direct admission program ties directly to the mission of Midland ISD that all students will graduate college, career, or military ready. This opportunity allows 552 MISD graduates from our four high schools to transition into a higher education institution and enroll with ease. We are grateful for our partnership with The University of Texas Permian Basin and look forward to growing this program over the coming years," said Dr. Stephanie Howard, Superintendent of MISD.

To qualify for an invitation from UTPB, students must have at least a 2.75 GPA, complete an online form and submit an official transcript to the Office of Admissions, as per the news release. Students who sign up will receive an email from UTPB regarding new student orientation.

"We are thrilled to introduce the direct admissions program at UTPB. This program reaffirms our commitment to providing higher educational opportunities for students in our community. Our goal is to help students realize that college is possible and affordable. We are here to help," stated Dr. Becky Spurlock, Senior Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
